Things To Do In The Albanian Riviera

Do you want a road trip down one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world? Or maybe the Albanian beaches are on your bucket list? Then the Albanian Riviera is for you.

There are so many things to do and see in this picturesque part of the world. But first, let's look at what is actually considered the Albanian Riviera.

What Is Considered The Albanian Riviera?

The Albanian Riviera is considered as the coastline that runs from Vlore to Sarande. Many people think it is the whole of Albania’s coastline, but it’s much smaller than that. Also referred to as Bregu, the Albanian Riviera is in the Ionian Sea and dotted with scenic villages that are well worth a visit if you’re making your way down the Riviera.

If you’re after an adventure in Albania, then the Riviera is the perfect place to start.

Things To Do In the Albanian Riviera

Of course, the beaches on the Albanian Riviera are an obvious destination on your road trip, but there are lots of amazing things to witness to truly make it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Depending on how you want your visit to be, the busiest times for the Albanian Riviera are, understandably, July to August when temperatures can reach 30 degrees Celsius. If that’s a bit too hot for you, then we recommend going in springtime or just after peak season when the weather will still be pleasant and it will be quieter.

Though Winter is still a beautiful time to visit the Albian Riviera (and the Alps!), be warned it can get pretty chilly!

National Park Llogara & Butrint National Park

Found in the Ceraunian Mountains in southwest Albania, Llogara overlooks the Albian Riviera and is a dense area of immense nature.

Within the park, you will find a vast range of diverse terrains, including mountains, meadows, as well as the stunning coastline below.

Hugely popular because of the amount you can see in a single visit, the different environments also mean you will see some beautiful wildlife wherever you look. See deer, wildcats, foxes, wolves and perhaps even a Golden Eagle which has been spotted in the mountains before.

Neighbouring Llogara is Butrint. Though they are both national parks, the two sites a vastly different from one another, but both are well worth a visit.

Butrint National Park in Albania

Once an ancient city of the Roman Empire, Butrint was used as a hospice for those returning from the Roman wars. After a devastating earthquake, much of the city was destroyed, yet much of what was left remains today. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, save at least 2 hours to wander around the park to take in all of its history.

Even if you’re not a history buff, Butrint should be on your list of things to do in the Albanian Riviera purely for the views and the vibrant blue lagoons that surround the area.

Palase Beach

Though many of the Albian Riviera beaches are beautiful, lots of them are a little crowded when they’re not the best that the area offers. Hence our recommendation of Palase Beach. Found just off the LLogara Pass, these stunning white sands are only a kilometre long but come highly praised.

Turquoise waters lap onto the sparkling sand whilst restaurants serving authentic Albanian food sit minutes away to give you the best experience of the Riviera.

There is also plenty of history to find here as well if you need a little activity after lounging in the Mediterranean sun. Hike through the mountains or see the ruins - there is plenty on offer in Palase.

Dhermi

Known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Albanian Riviera, Dhermi is an absolute must when going along the coastline.

Of course, there are awe-inspiring beaches to leisurely spend a few hours on, but there are also secret bays waiting to be uncovered, including the beautiful Drymades.

If you’re looking for a bit of a party, then Dhermi is the home to several festivals throughout the year and even has an impressive nightlife if you need a bit of a boogie after days on the Albanian Riviera beaches.

With restaurants and bars only a stone’s throw away from the white sands, Dhermi should definitely be on your list of things to do in the Albanian Riviera as one of the most authentic places in Albania.

Now that you know what is considered the Albanian Riviera, there is no excuse not to visit. One of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, its dreamy shores are waiting for you to arrive.
